Children' Health Insurance

Congress recently passed legislation to expand a successful program that provides health insurance for uninsured children. This bill would help cover an additional 5,000 to 10,000 uninsured kids on Staten Island and thousands more in Brooklyn. As one of only 45 Republicans to support the bill, I believed it could help so many young people live healthier and longer lives. It also benefits society as a whole by driving down the price of healthcare. Unfortunately, politics by both Democrats and Republicans have derailed these efforts. I have on multiple occasions voted to override President Bush's veto of the legislation. I have called on Congressional leaders to negotiate with the White House in order to ensure that uninsured children get the healthcare they need.
